Sunday 13th August 2017 was the first Guacs-Up Monthly Vegan Meet Up and what a fab one it was.
We wanted to create a event where like minded people could meet up, chat openly about Veganism, & have a good old knees up at the same time.
Our first event was held at Faringo’s Vegan Restaurant, based within the Kings Hotel on Queens Promenade, just past The Pleasure Beach in Blackpool Lancashire. Blackpool’s only 100% Vegan restaurant Faringo’s was only established a few weeks previously, so we thought it was the ideal place to host our first Guacs-Up event, supporting hopefully the first of many 100% Vegan restaurants in Blackpool. Being our first event we didn’t really know what to expect, how many people would turn up, how the evening would pan out, however any expectations were well and truly met.
Paolo the owner of Faringo’s welcomed us in the bar area while we waited for the awesome compassionate people to arrive. The turnout was great, 16 healthy happy Vegans came, most people came on there own not knowing anyone, but within minutes the conversations were flowing sharing stories, tips, advice, their vegan journey’s, & talking about how we can all spread the Vegan message afar, trying to make this world a better place.
We then moved into the restaurant and sat at tables which were at first separated, but we decided to put them all together into one big line, which caused a few moments of chaos moving tables and chairs, however, that was quickly quelled by the excitement of there being so many like minded people all in one place. Once everyone was seated and comfortable, we where all ready to order our food. Faringo’s offers a huge selection of vegan dishes on the menu, mainly Italian inspired, with pizza’s made from scratch on the premises, however, they also do themed nights too, a curry night and a Mexican night once a week, with takeaway options available too.
Myself and Guac (thats what I like to call Rico lol) ordered the lasagna and a Faux Lamb Sunday Roast. Others guest’s ordered, pasta’s, pizzas, salads, ‘cheesy’ garlic bread, burgers, wraps, Vegan stew etc, there was plenty to choose from.
Everyone was happy with the menu and tucked in once the food arrived. We especially enjoyed the lasagna which was accompanied by a side salad, it was full in flavour, the taste was great, and the ingredients were fresh. Guac being half Italian gave it his seal of approval, and we’d definitely order it again. Initially, we did think the price was a little steep, £14.95 for the lasagna, however, Paolo the owner explained later on to us that most of there ingredients are sourced from a Vegan Organic Farm in Pilling. I for one thought this was awesome, and the other guests where pleased to hear it also.
Paolo also asked for feedback and if we had any criticisms about the food, which was great as he was open to new ideas and suggestions from all of us. We feel that Faringos are extremely passionate about their new venture and are hoping to expand to other areas in the very near future, which is great for Blackpool.

The food, the service, and ambiance were great, Paolo really looked after us and made us all feel welcome. It’s not the cheapest Vegan restaurant in town, however, as mentioned Faringo’s sources its food from an organic farm, so it was worth paying a little extra for the quality of the food.
The evening was a huge success, we made lots of new friends and connections, and we’ve had awesome feed back from the wonderful people that turned up, and from others that would like to attend future events. We are looking forward to hosting our next Monthly Vegan Meet Up, and are excited about Guacs Up future events planned, including Vegan day trips to other cities, Vegan speed dating, animal activism, and much, much more.
